Everything smells like it shouldn’t; like the memories of you cling to the wrinkles in the sheets, Just enough to make imprints on my body that feel Permanent. Like you’ve stolen time I can’t afford to give away. And every time I look, The lines are deeper.
So here’s my farewell: Simply for a while. So the lines have time to Realise,
Every time my thoughts wander away,
My heart forgets to beat,
And I wrote it all down
So you can’t steal the words with the way you look at me.
Every tear I shed
You take away from me,
And save them for a darker day,
So you can give them to the clouds to rain the grey away.
Every time you speak it’s like shooting stars hit my chest and my lungs forget what it’s like to breathe.
If I could trace every part of you,
From fingertips to memories,
Then I would never let you go.
I would store every word you say on tapes,
So I could play on them repeat
And hear them with every heartbeat,
Until I could recite them without that need.
That beyond your darkened eyes
Are artists who sketch down every part of me.
But they’re so busy sometimes,
They forget to draw breath
